General Anesthesia
For certain procedures, your pet may need to be placed under general anesthesia to remain fully unconscious and pain-free. We know this can be a source of concern for pet owners, but modern anesthesia is very safe—especially when combined with the precautions we take at Partners and Paws. Before any anesthetic procedure, we perform a thorough physical exam and conduct blood work to identify any underlying health concerns.
Our general anesthesia protocol begins with a sedative to help your pet relax and reduce anxiety. We then administer an intravenous anesthetic, followed by the placement of a breathing tube to maintain unconsciousness with a carefully controlled mix of gas anesthetic and oxygen. Throughout the procedure, your pet’s vital signs are continuously monitored to ensure their safety and comfort at all times.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about general anesthesia or your pet’s upcoming procedure.
Local Anesthesia
For minor procedures such as biopsies or small surgical interventions, we may use local anesthesia to numb a specific area of your pet’s body. This allows your pet to stay awake while remaining pain-free in the targeted region. To keep your pet calm and relaxed, we may also use a sedative or anxiolytic (anti-anxiety medication) alongside the local anesthetic.
Local anesthesia is a safe, effective option for short, less invasive procedures. If you have questions about whether local anesthesia is right for your pet’s procedure, we’re here to help.
