Does My Pet Need Surgery?

Some of the most common surgeries we perform include spays and neuters, which are important for population control and can also provide health benefits for your pet. Spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) involve removing the reproductive organs, which can prevent certain cancers and behavioral issues. We also frequently perform mass removals, a procedure to excise suspicious lumps or growths that may be benign or potentially cancerous.

Another common procedure is the removal of masses, or lumps. Most of these masses, once removed and tested, are found to be benign (nonharmful); however, some could pose more serious health risks. Early removal and accurate diagnosis of a lump is necessary to improve the outcome in your pet if the mass is cancerous. Don't hesitate to contact Partners and Paws Veterinary Services if you're worried about your pet's health or have questions about these common surgical procedures. We're committed to providing the best care for your companions.

What Happens During a Veterinary Surgery

We strive to make the surgery process as comfortable and stress-free as possible for your pet. Surgery typically begins with a thorough pre-operative assessment of the animal. This includes a physical examination, blood tests, and sometimes imaging studies to ensure the pet is healthy enough for anesthesia and the procedure. Once cleared, the pet is prepared for surgery by administering pre-anesthetic medications to help them relax and provide pain relief. The surgical site is then shaved and cleaned to create a sterile field.

In the operating room, the veterinary team induces general anesthesia and monitors the pet's vital signs throughout the procedure. The surgeon performs the operation using sterile instruments and techniques. After the surgery is complete, the incision is closed with sutures or surgical staples. The pet is then moved to a recovery area where they are closely monitored as they wake up from anesthesia.
